This grossly underestimated alto and flute player was a member of Sun Ra’s band, recorded regularly for Blue Note in the 60’s, but always as a side man, for example with Freddie Hubbard, Wayne Shorter and McCoy Tyner. Later on he was a much appreciated collaborator of the big band of David Murray but his personal vision on ‘bebop and beyond’ deserves to be heard much more often.
