JACOB ANDERSKOV & MARILYN MAZUR GROUP
Three day festival with the finest jazz from Denmark. Day 2 features strings, percussion and piano led by Jacob Anderskov, as well as imaginative compositions by Marilyn Mazur, who played percussion with Miles Davis.
The three day festival Danish Delight brings the finest jazz from Denmark, with concerts at leading Dutch and Belgian venues. Every concert features two bands representing contemporary Danish jazz. Danish Delight is organized by New Arts International in collaboration with JazzDanmark and several Danish jazz labels.
The second festival day at the Bimhuis opens with the ensemble of strings, percussion and piano led by Jacob Anderskov, ‘a dazzling new force in European jazz’ (Jazzwise). The pianist lets his string trio compositions clash with energetic improvisations by himself and drummer Peter Bruun. ‘A beautifully conceived set of music for an ensemble for three string players and piano and drums… impressive and gently groundbreaking’ (Downbeat).
Percussionist/composer Marilyn Mazur, mainly known for her work with Miles Davis and Jan Garbarek, has performed with countless well-known musicians all over the world. In recent years she has concentrated on her own band and on special projects, such as composing for choirs and ensembles. Her Marilyn Mazur Group sounds intense and melodic, and is directly aimed at the listener. The compositions for this band are full of poetic imagery and are performed with an impressive dose of energy.
