JACKY TERRASSON TRIO
Jacky Terrasson-piano, Sean Smith-bass, Leon Parker-drums
The cosmopolitan pianist Jacky Terrasson (Born in Berlin in ’66, with French/American parents) grew up in Parijs, moved to New York in 1990 and won the Thelonious Monk Award in 1993). Since then he brought out a series of albums on Blue Note, among which the classic ‘Rendez Vouz’ with Cassandra Wilson. ‘Mr. Terrasson plays precise vamps, broken up by Thelonious Monk quotations and short melodic improvisations, that can go on for extended periods: it’s his way of treating the piano like tuned drums. But for shorter stretches, Mr. Terrasson went the other way, abstracting himself from the song’s rhythm and harmony and producing long, tense gusts of improvised melody, ending only when his concentration broke.’ (The New York Times).
