Drummer/composer Jack DeJohnette played with jazz legends such as Miles Davis, Keith Jarrett and Stan Getz. ‘He gave me a deep groove that I just loved to play over’, said Davis. DeJohnette’s colorful grooves give away that he once started out as a pianist. As a composer he blends jazz with soul, rock, avant-garde and non-western music. In his group he plays with such contemporary band leaders as Rudresh Mahanthappa, who was voted best alto saxophonist in the most recent Downbeat Critics Poll. DeJohnette himself was voted best drummer of 2012.
