Izaline Calister is able to evoke the warmth of the Caribbean with her voice and her songs. With guitarist Ed Verhoeff she has been performing for a solid ten years, which is audible, almost tangible. After a search for a third instrument, they found trumpeter Angelo Verploegen, who’s renowned for his worm, intuitive and instantly recognizable sound. This exceptional trio will perform original songs alongside adaptations in a myriad of styles.
Izaline Calister’s music is a fusion between traditional music from her native Curaçao and jazz with Afro-Caribbean influences. Her songs Wow’i Kariño, Kanta Hélele, Sa Sa Na Awasa, Bendishoná, and more recently Reina di Pordon, became number one hits in the Caribbean region. Ed Verhoeff’s 25-year career encompasses many different styles, but it’s his uniquely personal approach that makes him such an in-demand musician, for example with the Metropole Orchestra. Trumpeter Angelo Verploegen has made name with jazz sextet The Houdini’s, with which he has toured all over the world.
