Curaçao vocalist and songwriter Izaline Calister has a special relationship with the Bimhuis; when she presented her debut album here in the year 2000 she wrote history: ‘Overwhelming, catchy, professional and convincing, sometimes one should not be too careful with adjectives’, said one of the highly impressed jazz critics about this concert. After this important moment Calister recorded three more albums, did numerous (inter)national tours and proved to be the most important ambassador of the Afro-Caribbean in and outside the Netherlands. She plays a crucial part in the recognition of the Antillean folklore and ‘jazz antiyano’. With her CD Kanta Hélele (2006) Callister proves to be a subtle and elegant singer songwriter.
