Isaiah Collier & The Chosen Few
Wednesday9 November 2022

As a saxophonist in his early twenties, Isaiah Collier is already making a deep impression with his powerful, uplifting tenor and soprano playing. His album Cosmic Transitions was recorded on the birthday of his great example, John Coltrane, in the same studio and on the same analogue equipment as the Coltrane classic A Love Supreme. Collier pays his respect to the tradition while looking ahead with his band The Chosen Few, with which he will be performing on our stage.

Isaiah Collier cut his teeth in Chicago, in bands such as Angel Bat Dawid’s Brotherhood, and accompanying a wide range of artists, from Chance The Rapper to Wadada Leo Smith. His five part suite Cosmic Transitions was recorded in the Van Gelder Studio in New Jersey, which was founded by the legendary engineer Rudy Van Gelder. The eponymous album was rewarded with a five star review in authoritative jazz magazine Downbeat.
