Space is the Place presents An Intergalactic Night, an evening of performances in all kinds of genres and disciplines. In this edition, slam poetry and African narrative art are interchanged with solo and duo improvisations on violin, bagpipes, and many other instruments. House pianist is Marta Warelis. GENEVIEVE MURPHY/ANDY MOOR
The desire for control and the unleashing of control are important elements in the works of composer/performer Genevieve Murphy. She forms a duo with Andy Moor, former guitarist of The Ex. Together they will push their own boundaries and that of the audience.

MARIELLE GROVEN
Canadian composer Marielle Groven improvises on violin. Her composed music foregrounds the beauty and complexity of raw sound. Her scores are handmade and realized using a highly distilled form of notation drawing on standard and graphic-based methods.

DAAN DOESBORGH
Daan Doesborgh is a writer, translator and podcast creator. He was an editor at Propria Cures, and is now an editor at Tirade. He became the Dutch Poetry Slam Champion in 2010. Currently he’s working on his debut novel, which is scheduled to be published by Van Oorschot.

MOLA SYLLA
Singer/percussionist Mola Sylla grew up in Dakar, Senegal, in the tradition of the griots. In West African culture, griots convey stories, sometimes decorated with music, theater and dance. Mola Sylla collaborates with established jazz artists such as Ernst Reijseger and Harmen Fraanje.

MARTA WARELIS
The house pianist of An Interplanetary Night is Marta Warelis. With her preference for improvisation and experimentation, she continually aims for new sounds and influences. Her work draws inspiration from genres, from cumbia and Angolan dance music to jazz and western classical music.
