BIMHUIS & Space is the Place

For years, De Ruimte was home to Impro Jam: a meeting place for discovering free improvisation and experimental music. Curiosity, connection, and spontaneity stand central. The series, started in 2014 by saxophonist Ada Rave, is now being revived by Space is the Place at various venues in Amsterdam and Utrecht. Each Impro Jam is introduced by an opening band, after which other musicians can join in with their instruments and jam together on stage. So, bring your instruments! Dancers are welcome too!

For the opening of this edition, Muchmo shares the stage with dancer Kenzo Kusada. Muchmo consists of Nora Mulder, Nico Chientaroli, and Johanna Monk. They bring together various elements: spoken word, vocals, wind instruments, synthesizers, and prepared and arranged pianos. Kenzo Kusada gives shape to the invisible and creates a mysterious atmosphere with his dance and choreography.

Impro Jam is an initiative of Space is the Place; an adventurous and nomadic organization that also organizes concerts at the BIMHUIS under the banners of “An Intergalactic Night” and “An Interplanetary Night.” Space is the Place is building a creative breeding ground for the local jazz and improv scene.
