Immanuel Wilkins Quartet

Immanuel Wilkins alto sax, Micah Thomas piano, Tyrone Allen bass, Kweku Sumbry drums

Immanuel Wilkins is a saxophonist with a penchant for grand gestures, with an engaging sound and epic compositions. His first album Omega was named the best of 2020 by New York Times and the most important jazz debut in years by JazzTimes. Early 2022 his follow-up album The 7th Hand will appear on the famous label Blue Note. On this release, Wilkins seizes on themes of religion and spiritism in relation to music.

Wilkins recently played at the BIMHUIS with another new jazz hero on Blue Note, vibes player Joel Ross. Additionally, he has collaborated with artists from very different genres, and major ones too: Solange Knowles, Wynton Marsalis and Bob Dylan, for example. This indicates the scope of the alto saxophonist, who will now perform with the band that can be heard on The 7th Hand.
