ILILTA BAND – ETHIOPIË

Afterwards: DJ ANDY MOOR & TERRIE EX
Chalachew Ashenafi masinqo/zang, Mesele Asmamaw krar, Mesale Legesse kebero

Anarchist rock band The Ex frequently travels through Ethiopia. In Addis Ababa the musicians from Amsterdam discovered likeminded spirits in the Ililta Band, featuring azmari singer Chalachew Ashenafi. Azmaris are as old as Ethiopia itself. They are troubadours who use humor, poetry and outspoken criticism to reflect on current events. The Ililta Band incorporates it into danceable music played on the three most important traditional instruments: masinqo (one-stringed violin), krar (six-stringed lyre) and kebero (drums made of large cans and cow skin).

Afterwards: DJ ANDY MOOR & TERRIE EX
