IL SOUND DEL GIRO

PLEASE NOTE: change of lineup

Due to volcanic ashes, no planes will fly between Holland and Italy today. This has some consequences for tonight’s programme:

The Gabriele Mirabassi Quartet will be replaced by the Gerard Kleijn Group. The Mike del Ferro trio will perform with a different rhythm section, featuring Flin van Hemmen and Clemens van der Feen. Other than this, tonight’s show will continue as planned.

Last minute tickets for this show are available at a special discount. Follow this link: http://www.easyticket.nl/?e=2172 and get your tickets for 9 euro instead of 18!

This year the Giro d’Italia visits Amsterdam for one stage of the cycling tour. A flock Italian jazz musicians have descended on the Bimhuis for the occasion. Saxophone player Barend Middelhoff, formerly of The Houdini’s, travels over from his current residency Bologna. His band has an Italian rhythm section, just like Mike Del Ferro’s. Pianist Del Ferro and his trio accompany jazz vocalist Maria Pia De Vito, who is fascinated with baroque music as well as standard and contemporary improv. She regularly collaborates with Ralph Towner, Ernst Reijseger and Steve Swallow. Gabrielle Mirabassi became known as a clarinet player in the bands of Richard Galliano and Rabih Abou Khalil. He plays in all styles, from contemporary classical to Brazilian. ‘A combination of smoothly lubricated jazzy swing, classical purity and an insistent Mediterranean storyteller’s witty intensity’ (The Guardian).
