A new form of spontaneous soul music, that is the specialty of the International Institute for Cooking and Arts of bass trombone player Matsmumoto ‘Santi’ Kazushi. The Japanese Amsterdam inhabitant gathered an international group of young musicians who play his highly personal arrangements of jazz standards, Japanese originals and obscure musical works. Improvisation, well timed ensemble work and solid rock provides Ikki with a unique sound: ‘Gil Evans on LSD’, to quote Hans Dulfer. The band itself speaks of ‘dirty power jazz’. The Japanese word Ikki means: riot or disturbance but also stands for spiritual unity. Before every concert they share a delicious meal.
