The story of Muhammad Ali and his boxing match against George Foreman, the ‘rumble in the jungle’ that shook the world, is set to music by Ikarai, in a true blend of classical music, jazz and improvisation. The ensemble comes together on a stage that’s turned into a boxing ring, in a night full of recollections, speeches and poems by the boxer who’s still known as ‘The Greatest’.
The young ensemble Ikarai consists of violin, viola, cello, double bass, piano and drums: a string ensemble that includes a jazz trio. Founding members Julian Schneemann and Camiel Jansen both write music for the ensemble, bridging the gap that has developed between classical music and improvisation, between composer and performer.
