IIRO RANTALA / MARIUS NESET
Marius Neset sopraan-/tenorsax, Iiro Rantala piano
Imaginative duo improvisations by Norwegian super talent Marius Neset on tenor and soprano sax and Finnish jazz pride Iiro Rantala on piano. ‘Fabulous, of a rare beauty’ (JazzNu).
Both of these masterful Scandinavians have their own successful careers in jazz. Saxophonist Marius Neset links virtuosity to beauty and emotion. Immediately after his debut in 2013 he was lauded as ‘the most talented Norwegian saxophonist since Jan Garbarek’ (Dagbladet). His kindred spirit, pianist Iiro Rantala, is undoubtedly one of the most successful Finnish jazz musicians internationally. For years he played in the singular trio Töykeät and as a solo artist he’s also celebrated, for example for his variations on songs by John Lennon. Neset and Rantala will play solos and duets in this versatile concert, alternating original compositions with a personal selection of jazz, pop/rock and classical.
