Improvisation is like daily life … like crossing the street’, said drummer Han Bennink in Downbeat. The 10 man improvisation group ICP, which Bennink founded 40 years ago with pianist Misha Mengelberg, could be compared to a jazz orchestra from New Orleans crossing a busy street in New York. Even though Mengelberg tries to hinder them with his rowdy piano playing, these international musicians manage to reach the other side every time without a scratch.
