The legendary ICP Orchestra plays group improvisation at the highest level. ‘These musicians can swing like mad when they want to, and can play the most sensitive café ballad at the drop of a hat. They also compose their own fantastic repertoire’, says trumpet player Dave Douglas. In 1967 pianist Misha Mengelberg and drummer Han Bennink founded the Instant Composers Pool. This company evolved into an eccentric orchestra of virtuosos that operates between fundamental jazz structures and contemporary improvisation styles.
Special guest: Guus Janssen (piano)

George Anthel’s Ballet Mécanique will be performed in the entrance hall to Muziekgebouw aan ’t IJ at 20:00 hours to mark the start of the new season.
