‘Mack the Knife’ is only one of the world famous songs taken from Dreigroschenoper (1928), or Three Penny Opera. This musical theatre play by Bertolt Brecht and Kurt Weill, which was intended as social commentary, is full of jazz and blues. There’s a comical side to these songs, which is emphasized by Dutch-German cabaret performer and ‘enfant terrible of showbizz’ Sven Ratzke, with soprano singer Claron McFadden, ‘who is unafraid and who delights audiences everywhere’ (Vrij Nederland).
