I Compani à Paris is a photo film concert dedicated to the city of love, Paris. Mixing jazz, film music and circus music, the ensemble I Compani accompanies photography of past and present, projected on the big screen. Works by well-known international photographers is included, for example by Nijmegen-based photographer Flip Franssen. For the first time band leader and saxophonist Bo van de Graaf will reveal snapshots from his travels, and there will be poetry by, among others, Remco Campert. Van de Graaf and double bassist Arjen Gorter will also perform with Reeds & Deeds, which will appear in the second half of this double concert.
Reeds & Deeds originated as a one-off happening dedicated to the music of Rahsaan Roland Kirk. A passionate and inventive improviser, who played multiple saxophones at the same time, Kirk was a gifted composer as well, who wrote catchy themes. The members of Reeds & Deeds have played in, among others, Willem Breuker Kollektief and Bik Bent Braam. The band name was taken from Kirk’s eponymous album from 1963.
