Huun-Huur-Tu

Kaigal-ool Khovalyg vocals/igil/doshpuluur, Sayan Bapa vocals/doshpuluur/marinhuur/guitar, Alexey Saryglar vocals/tungur/dashaaning khavy, Chanzy Radik Tyulyush vocals/byzaanchi/khomuz/amarga

The singers of Huun-Huur-Tu are the most famous ambassadors of Tuva, the mysterious republic on the Mongolian border. In the early nineties the first albums were released by the group that baffled Western audiences with overtone singing, a technique using the throat and producing several different pitches by one voice. The singers come from the nomadic culture of Tuva and their songs are inspired by its ancient shamanic rituals. The four members play traditional instruments such as flute, fiddle, lute and percussion.

This concert is related tom the project Terra Incognita – Tuva, by the German photographer and music producer Ulrich Balß, to which Huun-Huur-Tu has contributed music. Part of this project was a book with CD and DVD, which was released last fall. In the past 30 years Huun-Huur-Tu has collaborated with a wide range of artists and ensembles, including Ry Cooder, Kronos Quartet, Frank Zappa, The Chieftains and Trilok Gurtu.

‘Huun-Huur-Tu proves that traditional music can develop itself without using too many non-traditional elements’ (MixedWorldmusic).

‘Truly astounding, powerful and evocative’ (BBC).

In the pre-program of Huun-Huur-Tu you get to enjoy the documentary “Terra Incognita-Tuva”, an introduction to Tuva, the habits of the people and the magnificent nature. The film starts at 8 PM.

Please note: this concert is rescheduled from October 18, 2020. Previously bought tickets stay valid.
