HUMAN FEEL
Andrew D’Angelo-alto saxophone, bass clarinet, Chris Speed-tenor saxophone, clarinet, Kurt Rosenwinkel-guitar, Jim Black-drums
Founded in Boston in 1987 by Seattle men Chris Speed, Andrew D’Angelo and Jim Black, completed by Kurt Rosenwinkel in 1990, the Human Feel quartet moved to New York. Speed, D’Angelo and Black were drawn to the downtown scene revolving around the Knitting Factory, Rosenwinkel joined the straight ahead scene around Smalls. With their energy music Human Feel built a bridge between those two worlds. In spite of the fact that the musicians meet on a regular basis, their last album dates from 1996. This reunion – a tour and a CD titled ‘Galore’ – ‘offers a good measure of the ways in which the musicians, separately and in collaboration, have exceeded their early promise.’ (The New York Times).
