HOD O’BRIEN TRIO

Hod O’Brien-piano, Hans Mantel-bass, John Engels-drums

There are musicians that, for some mysterious reason, always operate just outside the radar field. Pianist Hod O’Brien is one of them. Even though he played with almost everyone in his 50 year career, from Russel Procope to Archie Shepp, he is a true bebopper with a style, like Barry Harris, that hasn’t been damaged by later developments. A masterful bop-based improviser’, says the Los Angeles Times, ‘his lines unfolding with an impressive blend of precision and propulsive swing.’
