HENRY THREADGILL & ZOOID

Henry Threadgill altsax/fluit/arranger/composer, Jose Davila trombone/tuba, Liberty Ellman gitaar, Elliot Kavee drums, Christopher Hoffman cello

Even though alto saxophonist, flutist and band leader Henry Threadgill received the Best Composer honors in the Downbeat Critics Polls of 1988, 1989 and 1990, he’s currently in the midst of a career renaissance. This is because of his group Zooid, an intangible acoustic ensemble which introduces an astounding crossbreed of avant-garde jazz and chamber music. Behind Zooid’s seductive acoustic music, with timbres from jazz and refreshing arrangements with cello, tuba and guitar, are radical improvising musicians who continually push each other to the limit. ‘The string-centric chamber planet that Threadgill has cultivated is utterly magnetic’ (Downbeat).

After the concert, in the cafe, a solo concert by pianist Dave Burrell.

The Bimhuis restaurant is open prior to the concert from 6.30 til 8.30PM (reservations via 020-7882158).
