HENRY THREADGILL & ZOOID

Henry Threadgill alto sax/flute, Liberty Ellman guitar, Stomu Takeishi bass, José Davila trombone/tuba, Elliot Kavee drums
– special guest: Tarik Benbrahim Oud/Quitra

Henry Threadgill & ZOOID’s most recent album, This Brings Us To, Vol. 1, topped the annual critics’ polls of New York Times, Village Voice, Washington Post and many other publications. This proves once again that saxophone and flute player Threadgill is an icon of the American avant-garde and ‘one of the most important composers working today in jazz.’ (Downbeat). Threadgill creates rich music that clearly reveals his history in brass bands as well as classical ensembles. He made name as a soloist when playing in legendary formations like Air and Very Very Circus. ZOOID is his current group, which features talented guitarist Liberty Ellman. ‘Zooid, a term from biology referring to cellular locomotion, is an apt moniker for the way Threadgill keeps tuba, guitar, drums, electric bass, and his own alto or flute moving in harmonious opposition’ (Village Voice). ‘One of last year’s most scintillating albums’ (New York Times).
