HENRY GRIMES TRIO feat. DAVID MURRAY, SUNNY MURRAY
David Murray-tenor saxophone, Henry Grimes-double bass, Sunny Murray-drums
Once, his orbituary was written but that appeared to be highly exaggerated. One of the most delightful events in recent jazz history is the comeback (after 35 years of silence) of master bass player Henry Grimes who contributed to many important timeless recordings in the 50’s and 60’s. He played with Lee Konitz, Gerry Mulligan and Sonny Rollins but also with prophets of the New Thing like Albert Ayler, Archie Shepp and Cecil Taylor. He disappeared and lived in complete isolation in Los Angeles without an instrument until he was ‘discovered’ and William Parker offered him one of his double basses. Grimes is still, or again, one of the greatest musicians alive which he will show with this beautiful trio.
