Young musicians making waves in the Norwegian and Amsterdam improvised music scenes join forces in this new band, which originated at the October Meeting 2016 at the Bimhuis.
Hearth is the first band that was founded as a result of the October Meeting 2016. During this three-day project at the Bimhuis various improvising from the Netherlands and abroad performed in surprising combinations, playing original material exclusively. On the first night these four musicians immediately established a lasting connection.
Danish-born alto saxophonist Mette Rasmussen made an impression in the Norwegian scene with her stunning range of moods and attacks. She plays in Mats Gustafsson’s Fire! Orchestra and regularly collaborates with drummer Chris Corsano. Four years ago, Ada Rave moved from Buenos Aires to Amsterdam and is currently improvising on alto and tenor sax in various bands. Portuguese trumpeter Susana Santos Silva has already performed at the Bimhuis in the Lama Trio with Joachim Badenhorst. Pianist Kaja Draksler has established herself in the Amsterdam scene as a solo pianist and leader of her own octet. She collaborates with, among others, Michael Moore and Ab Baars.
