HAYMARKET RACKETEERS
Michael Moore-alto sax, clarinets, John Ross-vocals, Jodi Gilbert-vocals, Mary Oliver-violin, Rozemarie Heggen-bass, Wilbert de Joode-bass, Michael Vatcher-drums
Writer/poet/activist/journalist John Ross, one of the last of the American beat poets, performed with Charles Mingus in a jazz & poetry program in the 50’s. In the 70’s he worked with Michael Moore and Michael Vatcher in California (before they both moved to Europe). Since a few decades, Ross works as a correspondent for several papers, writing about social movements in Central America (like the Zapatista revolution). For this once-only reunion with Moore and Vatcher he takes repertoire from his older jazz poems and from his recently published instant cult classic ‘Murdered by Capitalism:150 Years of Life & Death on the U.S. Left’, of which parts were written by him as a rap.
