Han Bennink, Holland’s most adventurous drummer, offers space to young European jazz talents in his trio. Saxophone and clarinet player Joachim Badenhorst and pianist Simon Toldam approach the jazz tradition with an open view, coupling melodic improvisations with abstract, raw sounds. Aside from original compositions the trio plays surprisingly contemporary renditions of compositions by Duke Ellington and Billy Strayhorn. ‘Few drummers can swing as hard as Bennink.
