VPRO Jazz presents a weekend long survey of the contemporary state of Dutch Jazz and Improvisational Music. All concerts will be broadcast live on Radio 6 and can be viewed live via an internet videostream. Programming, Presentation and interviews: Vera Vingerhoeds. The Ensemble a l’Improviste will pay homage to Claude Debussy. The French composer is known for his impressionist piano works, in which the notes seem to float. Often the influence of ragtime on his work is forgotten. Debussy for his part influenced jazz composers like Miles Davis and Bill Evans. The performance by the new ensemble is preceded by a duel between drummer Han Bennink and guitarist Anton Goudsmit, who describes their previous musical encounter as ’totally nuts’.
