Ballaké Sissoko gained fans all over the world with his magical playing of the kora, the African harp. The musician from Mali, a cousin of the famous Toumani Diabaté, will perform prior to the band Bamada led by his compatriot Habib Koité. This legendary singer-songwriter was influenced by flamenco and blues. His guitar often sounds as rich as a kora. Ballaké Sissoko and Habib Koité are both connected to the tradition of the griots, the traveling storytellers that unite the many West-African peoples.
This double concert with Malinese superstars is part of the Amsterdam Roots Festival. Prior to the concert there are short performances by Amsterdam artists with roots in Suriname and Namibia (more info).
