Wednesday14 October 2015

Three grandmasters of Dutch improvised music will perform as a trio for the very first time. Presentation of Guus Janssen’s cd Meeting Points with live Bimhuis recordings made from 1989 to 2014 (Bimhuis Records BIM010).

For many years these masterful musicians have been performing together in various combinations, but now they will perform as a trio for the very first time: trombone player Wolter Wierbos (ICP Orchestra), drummer Wim Janssen (Ensemble Loos) and pianist/composer Guus Janssen, who describes the trio as follows: ‘Themes, patterns and swing disintegrate and come together again in a new form. A wrong note turns out to be a good one, walking a tightrope between mistakes being solved in an unruly yet musical manner.’

‘Guus Janssen does nothing less than reinvent the piano. His brother Wim seems completely in tune with the pianist’s cliffhanger choices, so nothing sounds wayward or merely cute. Brilliant!’ (Penguin Guide to Jazz).

‘A total player, with outrageous facility and an inquiring mind’ (Coda Magazine on Wolter Wierbos).

The Bimhuis restaurant is open prior to the concert from 6.30 till 8.30PM (reservations via 020-7882158). After the concert, the Bimhuis Cafe is open (free entrance).
