GRETCHEN PARLATO

With her calm, exceptional voice Gretchen Parlato makes each song her own, adding colour with Brazilian rhythms. Besides original compositions she has performed covers of songs by such artists as Lauryn Hill, Wayne Shorter and Herbie Hancock. These last two have been fans from day one; Hancock describes her hushed vocal approach as ‘magical’. On top of that Downbeat and the Jazz Journalists Association count her among the best contemporary jazz vocalists. ‘Parlato has overturned clichés to make jazz singing cool again’ (Time Out New York).
