Since the 1980s vocal phenomenon Greetje Bijma has been drawing attention with her supple voice and theatrical performances both at home and abroad, and far beyond the jazz club and festival circuit. In 1990, she became the first female recipient of the Boy Edgar Prize, the most important Dutch award for jazz and improvised music. Over the years she has worked in varying combinations with the likes of Alan Laurillard, Willem Breuker, Marilyn Crispell, Mark Dresser and Jasper van ‘t Hof, giving duo concerts with composer/pianist Louis Andriessen and doing solo performances with symphony orchestra for works by German composer Bernd Konrad. She has been performing solo frequently of late and as a duo with organ and harmonium player Klaas Hoek. Bijma has been on stage for over 25 years. To honour this she will be performing with the renowned Chinese female pipa-player Yang Jing and an ensemble especially formed for the occasion led by pianist/composer Michiel Braam, with Boy Raaymakers, Wolter Wierbos, Jan Willem van der Ham, Wilbert de Joode and Michael Vatcher.
