GONZALO RUBALCABA SOLO

Cuban pianist Gonzalo Rubalcaba ‘s last Bimhuis gig was 22 years ago. In the meantime, he has recorded CDs with Michael Brecker, Joe Lovano and Charlie Haden, won a Grammy and become one of the world’s top jazz pianists. ‘He has a tendency to load the music with tension by playing complex passages quietly, using dark, dense harmony; the delicacy of his touch makes it seem as if he were pulling notes out of the piano rather than pushing them in’ (New York Times).
