ZuperOctave is the new band of guitarist Gilad Hekselman, one of the young Israeli-born jazz players who are conquering the world from Brooklyn, New York. He has previously collaborated with named musicians such as Chris Potter, Mark Turner en Jeff Ballard. Gilad’s improvisations are imaginative and his compositions are captivating and timeless.
ZuperOctave revisits characteristic electronic instruments such as Fender Rhodes, synthesizers and drum pads. Alongside Hekselman the trio features pianist Aaron Parks, who made name in the bands of Joshua Redman and Kurt Rosenwinkel, and drummer Kendrick Scott (Charles Lloyd, Terence Blanchard, among others).
‘A guitarist with unusual command of touch and dynamics, a writer fluent in a diverse, enthralling jazz vocabulary’ (Jazz Times).
‘The feeling in a small club quickly grows intense when Gilad Hekselman, an Israeli jazz guitarist in his mid-20s, steps up to improvise. Since arriving in New York, Mr. Hekselman has set himself roughly up in the line of Pat Metheny and Kurt Rosenwinkel, with a warm and clean guitar tone, clear articulation, crazily extended improvisational ideas’ (New York Times).
