Energetic, lyrical jazz by ‘keyboard player of the present’ (de Volkskrant) Gideon van Gelder and his New York band. Presentation of the CD Lighthouse, with guest vocalist Lilian Vieira (Zuco 103).

At a young age jazz music was already a major influence in the life of pianist Gideon van Gelder, the brother of saxophonist Ben van Gelder. With his energetic and lyrical style he has found his way in New York, where he started his own band. His music is formed by the New York avant-garde and is full of widely varied influences, from Brazilian to classical. At the Bimhuis he will present his sophomore album, the follow-up to his impressive debut Perpetual, which received enthusiastic reactions in the famous BBC radio shows of Jamie Cullum and DJ Gilles Peterson.

In 2007 Gideon moved to New York, where he studied with Vijay Iyer and Craig Taborn. He established himself on the scene accompanying José James, for example on the album Blackmagic, and he formed a band with musicians from New York. At the Bimhuis, regular singer Becca Stevens will be temporarily replaced by Lilian Vieira, known as the leading lady of the internationally renowned Dutch-Brazilian group Zuco 103.

‘Van Gelder is a keyboard player of the present, mixing catchy staccato pop elements with intricate jazz chords’ (de Volkskrant).

The Bimhuis restaurant is open prior to the concert from 6.30 til 8.30PM (reservations via 020-7882158). After the concert, the Bimhuis Café is open (free entrance).
