GENE CARL BAND

Jeffrey Bruinsma-violin, Bo Koek-percussion, drums, Wiek Hijmans-el. guitar, Gene Carl-piano, Ken Gould-vocals

Keyboard man and composer Gene Carl (Los Angeles, 1953) combines influences from jazz, pop, rock and contemporary classical music. For years he performed in Louis Andriessen’s Hoketus and at the same time he worked for the Utrecht Institute for Sonology as well as for the famous Summer Classes of Darmstadt, Germany. With unusual covers of Joy Division and My Bloody Valentine his band breaks with the ‘standard sigh’ in jazz. ‘But every now and then, you stumble across a gold vein. (…) So it is with the music of Gene Carl. It’s funny, trenchant, challenging, engaging, relentless and mellifluous.’ (Keyboard Magazine)
