Even though it is clear that the musician behind the cello has to work hard to get the right sounds out of his instrument, the person behind the computer seems only to have to click his mouse a couple of times. Music lovers who are interested in what really happens behind the switch board can come to the Muziekgebouw aan ’t IJ and the Bimhuis during the Gaudeamus Live Electronics Festival. With a view into the past, still the focus is on the future in this festival: the possibilities of live electronic music with a lot of attention for recent developments and new works. Next to this, the festival offers an overview of the developments since the 60’s. The guest of honor is Gordon Mumma. On Friday November 24, the festival will be closed with a symposium and a lively evening of various, brief performances. All week, Xavier van Wersch will present his Sonic Wargame at the Atrium of the Muziekgebouw aan ’t IJ. An inventive and visual phonetic game will be battled out musically by four teams.
