CHICO FREEMAN & ANTONIO FARAÒ QUARTET: TRIBUTE TO JOHN COLTRANE
Chico Freeman sax, Antonio Farao’ piano, Philippe Aerts double bass, Benjamin Henocq drums
Saxophonist Chico Freeman and pianist Antonio Faraò share a fascination for the revolutionary jazz of John Coltrane (1926-1967). Together with their band they shed new light on classics from the oeuvre of the legendary saxophonist and composer. Additionally, they will perform original compositions inspired by their great example.
Chico Freeman shared the stage with some of the masters of jazz history, such as McCoy Tyner, Dizzy Gillespie and Sun Ra. He played in all kinds of styles, from blues in Chicago to avant-garde jazz in New York. He also played pop with, among others, Michael Jackson and Sting, as well as latin with the likes of Chucho Valdes and Tito Puente. He learned the tricks of the trade from his father, saxophonist Von Freeman, and from his uncles, guitarist George Freeman and drummer Buzz Freeman.
