FRED FRITH SOLO

Fred Frith gitaar/bas/zang

For over thirty years composer and multi-instrumentalist Fred Frith has been shifting borders between rock, improvisation and contemporary music. In the 1970s he was already very influential as a guitarist, first in the innovative British rock band Henry Cow and later with Brian Eno. He moved to New York, where he improvised with John Zorn, Tom Cora and Bill Laswell. As a composer he collaborated with leading ensembles such as Asko|Schönberg, Arditti Quartet and Ensemble Modern.

As a solo guitarist Frith has developed a unique approach, improvising with metal objects, drum sticks, bows and electronics. ‘A masterful sound colorist… he redefines the possible uses of the guitar and makes traditional discourse irrelevant’ (L.A. Herald Examiner).
