The new Bimhuis season opens with self-styled improvised jazz led
by pianist Frank van Bommel, featuring Tobias Delius, Joris Roelofs,
Paul Berner en Han Bennink.

For the opening concert at
the Bimhuis, pianist Frank van Bommel brought together a new band with
well-known musicians, in a fresh combination. They will dedicate
themselves to ‘instant composing’, creating new music on the spot.
Points of departure will be compositions by Van Bommel as well as Eric
Dolphy, Mal Waldron and others.

‘This is going to be very
exciting’, says Van Bommel. ‘The combination of bass clarinet and tenor
sax is one of my favorites. Also, some of the musicians are not that
familiar with each other yet, which avoids them falling into old
habits.’

As an improvising pianist Frank van Bommel has developed
his own singular style with influences of swing as well as contemporary
classical music. In groups such as Bite the Gnatze and As If Trio he
played with many illustrious names in Dutch improvised music. Earlier
this year he played a series of highly varied solo concerts at the
Bimhuis café.

The Bimhuis restaurant is open prior to the concert from 6.30 til 8.30PM (reservations via 020-7882158). After the concert, the Bimhuis Café is open (free entrance).
