FRANK VAN BOMMEL QUINTET
Frank van Bommel-composition, piano, Arjen Gorter-bass, Martin van Duynhoven-drums, Tobias Delius-tenor saxophone, clarinet, Michael Moore-alto saxophone, clarinet, bass clarinet
Frank van Bommel has diversity at his fingertips, with a particular affinity for melodic figures. He is an attacking pianist, turning corners with a vitality that pulsates a song.’ This review in Coda illustrates the success that Van Bommel had in North America with his album ‘A Crutch for the Crab’ with compositions of the pianist Dick Twardzik, wrongfully living in oblivion. On his second album ‘Ore’, with this quintet, you can hear that he developed the classically influenced, patch work like concept of Twardzik in a highly personal way and offers a lot of space that can be used freely by the reed players.
