FRANK VAN BOMMEL QUARTET & MICHAEL MOORE
Frank van Bommel-piano, Tobias Delius-tenor saxophone, clarinet, Michael Moore-alto saxophone, clarinets, Arjen Gorter-double bass, Martin van Duynhoven-drums
This Dutch all star group united several years ago to play their own interpretations of pieces by the brillant, but almost forgotten American pianist Dick Twardzik. In the early 50’s Twardzik played with Parker, Getz, Mingus and Chet Baker until (when he was touring with Baker) he died of an overdose. Twardzik’s compositions became an inspirational starting-point for new, original music, mainly from Frank van Bommel. ‘If enough people hear van Bommel’s music, Twardzik may have a future after all’ ( CODA Magazine).
