FRANCES-MARIE UITTI & PAUL GRIFFITHS

(students € 10) i.c.w. Holland Festival

Paul Griffiths-narrator, Frances-Marie Uitti-cello

Author Paul Griffith and cellist Frances-Marie Uitti present an intimate and touching portrait about love and loss, memory and hope…there is still time. Words get cut off; the music takes over, breaks through their boundaries and takes them to regions beyond language. Griffith’s text uses the words that Ophelia speaks in Hamlet but her character has no name here, a person that connects to thoughts and feelings that can not be expressed – except in music. Where Paul Griffiths speaks ‘Ophelian’, Frances-Marie Uitti creates her own language in which she uses various cellos, tuned differently in combination with her double bow technique. Her music starts a dialogue with the text, contradicts and intoxicates. THIS PROGRAM HAS NO INTERMISSION.
