FLY: JEFF BALLARD / LARRY GRENADIER / MARK TURNER

AFTERWARDS AT THE CAFÉ: DJ ALVIZ

Mark Turner tenor saxophone, Larry Grenadier bass, Jeff Ballard drums

Fly is ‘an intimate band with teeth’, according to drummer Jeff Ballard, accessible and razor sharp at the same time. Ballard and double bassist Larry Grenadier, steady collaborators of Brad Mehldau, form a tight unit in Fly with tenor sax player Mark Turner.

Fly’s music breathes and draws in the listener. Those who pay close attention will be rewarded with unbelievable grooves in challenging time signatures, chock full of funk and hip-hop influences.

‘Fly takes it a notch higher by reaching beyond the obvious’ (Downbeat).
