After 25 years of Bik Bent Braam the Dutch pianist Michiel Braam has decided to move on in a more compact and flexible line-up. Flex Bent Braam will present a new album, Lucebert, dedicated to the eponymous poet, CoBrA painter and jazz fanatic. The CD is part of the book Lucebert & Jazz, with texts by and on Lucebert and photographs by Pieter Boersma. During the concert the book will be handed over to author Remco Campert.

When asked in 1965 to comment on the state of the literary movement De Vijftigers, Lucebert reacted with a telegram consisting of jazz titles: ‘Hot House, Dizzy Atmosphere (Misty), When Your Lover Has Gone (Get Out Of Town), Straight No Chaser, I May Be Wrong (So What), Let’s Cool One, Better Git It In Your Soul, Stratus Seekers.’

Exactly these jazz standards, arranged in a unique fashion, will be alternated with new compositions by Braam based on Lucebert’s Japanese epigrams. ‘Michiel Braam is one of the most exciting and prolific composers in jazz’ (Chicago Reader).
