Kronos’ 50 for the Future

Fifty new compositions for string quartet in one weekend

Time for celebration! In 2023 the legendary Kronos Quartet will have its fifty year anniversary. To celebrate this momentous occasion, the American Quartet commissioned fifty composers from around the world to write a string quartet, hence, 50 for the Future. These fifty pieces reflect the rich sounds of the world, composed by some of the relevant and diverse composers of our time.

During May 6th and 7th the Muziekgebouw and Bimhuis will embody the spirit of 50 for the Future, the magnum opus of the Kronos Quartet. Every event will be a must-see for the string quartet lover. Ten extraordinary quartets will perform all 50 pieces in one weekend, a unique experience only available in Amsterdam. If one pleased, they could even listen to all 50 pieces, spanning eight hours of music, in one weekend. It’s also possible to make a selection of performances and events through our selection of passes.

Meet the composers! During 50 for the Future Weekend composers such as Fodé Lassana Diabaté, Jlin Patton, Aleksandra Vrebalov and Charlton Singleton will provide insights into their work, in addition to talks and panel discussions.
