Vocalist Fay Victor, ‘a boldly inventive Betty Carter-Billie Holiday hybrid’ (JazzTimes), developed a highly original approach during in her hometown New York and during several Amsterdam years. She once had a dance hit with the song ‘You make me happy’ and also as a ‘thinking person’s jazz vocalist’ (All About Jazz) she always sounds as cheerful, spontaneous and energetic. With Misha Mengelberg as a guest, something special will come out of a tribute to Thelonious Monk and Herbie Nichols.
