Singer/songwriter Fatoumata Diawara, ‘the major talent of world music’ (de Volkskrant), sings with sparkling voice about African life.

Singer-songwriter Fatoumata Diawara (1982) finds her inspiration in the Malian Wassoulou tradition, as well as in pop and jazz. With her sparkling voice, accompanied by her band, she sings about difficult everyday problems in the lives of African women such as polygamy and female circumcision. Her debut album Fatou appeared to great acclaim in 2011.

A natural born artist with a resumé including dance, film and street theater, Fatoumata found her calling as a singer-songwriter. Nevertheless she can spontaneously start dancing again during concerts. This socially conscious ‘super talent of world music’ (de Volkskrant) has written a peace song for Mali last year, for which she collaborated with forty top artists.

Location: Muziekgebouw. Tickets via www.muziekgebouw.nl or 020-7882000. 50% discount for Bimcards.
