From December 8 until 10, the seventh edition of the European Trytone Festival takes place, programmed by Dutch guitarist Wiek Hijmans this year. He presents ensembles that all belong to the best of the new European jazz, with Norwegian group Farmer’s Market (‘an unbelievably spectacular circus in which Scandinavian cleverness is confronted with Bulgarian hot-bloodedness’). Then duo Oene van Geel/Anton Goudsmit (’they are the most popular jazz musicians of their generation but have never been heard before as a duo’) and the group Tomassenko of the Walloon vocalist and actor Olivier Thomas (‘a remarkable combination of subtle vocals with rhythmically extreme developed jazz in transparent arrangements’).
